Hi there. My name is Jonathan. I’m a writer, editor, and producer based in New York City. I’m currently a senior editor at The Infatuation. In past lives, I worked as a cities manager and senior editor at Eater, was the editor-in-chief of VICE, the managing editor of Mic, and the U.S. editor of Huck magazine. My writing has appeared in the New York Times, GQ, New York, Interview, the Outline, and elsewhere.

Here’s some stuff I’ve done.

Golden State Burritos

A collaborative effort between Eaters LA, SF, and SD to explore the state’s most exciting burritos.

Voices of School Shooting Survivors

One month after the Parkland shooting, I commissioned a series of essays from 15 current and former students and teachers who had survived a school shooting. The writers spoke candidly about their experiences and opinions on gun control, providing valuable perspective to the national conversation. Excerpts from the series were animated and turned into short videos.

Why I Didn’t Vote

Ahead of the 2018 midterms, I commissioned this collection of essays from people who, despite their best efforts, were unable to vote in previous elections due to structural barriers instituted by the state.

The Evolving Face of Hate

Before the recent deplatforming initiatives by various social media companies, I assigned this package exploring the intersection of culture and far-right politics, and how the internet fuels radicalism. The Evolving Face of Hate peeled back the curtain to expose the mechanisms propping up and disseminating hate, as well as the “culture” that exists within those movements. It was a particularly timely series published just as the public first grappled with how toxic ideologies spread so rapidly and unchecked across the internet and beyond.

The VICE Mass Shooting Tracker

Over the course of 2016, VICE tracked every mass shooting in the United States and Europe. We updated the tally daily, and, each Friday, published a roundup of the week’s incidents. We occasionally went deep on individual shootings for a spinoff franchise called Anatomy of an Ordinary Mass Shooting, in which we illuminated a particular event that would otherwise have been a blip on the local news radar.

… On Acid!

I produced a number of documentaries in which the host was under the influence of LSD. Highlights included the Westminster Dog Show (which invited us back the next year!) and a monster truck rally.

Let Lee Explain

I produced this biweekly video series in which we took complex topics and explained them in straightforward, easily digestible videos.
